Prom Praise for Schools Workshops

Created a bespoke Music/RE workshop based on the KS2 curriculum to be offered to London schools Jan - March 2019  as part of Prom Praise for Schools. (Joint project between All Souls Music and London Diocese Board for Schools

The workshop links the classical pieces of music in the concert with the main theme - the Exodus story from the Bible.

In the workshop the children will be creating their own piece of music, inspired by 'Mars' from the planets by Holst, to help tell the the Exodus story and then perform to the rest of the class.  Joining the workshop leader will be musicians from the orchestra who will work directly with the children in small groups.

Workshop Aim:

Listen to ‘Mars’ from ‘The Planets’ by Holst and identify features in terms of pitch, dynamics and texture.

In groups, create a piece of music that helps tell the story of the Israelites in slavery by using pitch, dynamics and texture (specifically ostinato) and then perform it to the rest of the class.

Success criteria

  • I can recall sounds in terms of rhythm and pitch

  • I can listen to music and identify high and low pitch, loud and soft (ff and p) dynamic and texture (ostinato rhythm)
